Chennai: A 14-year-old girl died of food poisoning from shawarma in Tamil Nadu. The girl went to a fast food restaurant in Namakkal on Sunday with her parents. The family said that after eating shawarma, the child started feeling unwell.
The child was immediately admitted to the hospital. But on Monday, the child’s health deteriorated and succumbed to death. According to the police, 13 medical students who ate non-veg food from the same restaurant suffered from discomfort and all are undergoing treatment. With this, the district administration closed the restaurant.
The Food Safety Department raided the restaurant and collected samples of the food as soon as they got the information. Three people were detained in the incident. Others under treatment have eaten tandoori chicken and grilled chicken in addition to Shawarma. Authorities are investigating where the chicken was bought from.
