7th class student assaulted for worshipping Ganesh idol; teacher suspended after protest

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a student was beaten up by a teacher for worshiping an idol of Lord Ganesh in a school. The  intensity of the punishment was such that the child suffered a fracture on her left hand. Bhavyashree, a class 7 student of Allikalli Village Primary School in KGF taluk was the victim. The teacher, Hemalatha, was suspended after the child’s relatives lodged a complaint with the block education officer. The suspension order was issued by Krishnamurthy, Director of Public Education, Kolar. Hemalatha was also instructed to bear the medical expenses of the student. Villagers have also come forward to protest against the teacher’s action.

In another similar incident, action was taken against the principal and a teacher of a government higher secondary school at Bani in Katwa district of Jammu and Kashmir where a class 10 student was severely punished for writing God’s name on the blackboard.
