Mata Amritanandamayi Devi’s 70th birthday celebration took place at Amritapuri, Kollam, featuring a vibrant array of ceremonies and festivities. The celebrations began yesterday evening at a specially arranged venue on the Amrita Vishwavidyapeeth campus. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been no celebrations for the past three years. Traditionally, the celebrations occur on September 27th. However, this time, the festivities were observed on Kartika Day, aligning with her birth star.
Malayalam cinema’s acclaimed actor, Mohanlal, graced the occasion to seek Amma’s blessings on her birthday. During a function at Amritapuri, Mohanlal offered Hararpanam to Amma, and in return, she blessed the actor. Mohanlal, displaying deep reverence, touched her feet and sought her blessings. Subsequently, Mohanlal also attended Amma’s pada pooja ceremony, demonstrating his devotion and respect for the spiritual leader.
The cultural conference here brought together delegates from 193 countries. Notably, the event was honored by the presence of the governors of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana states. Devotees of Amma from around the world participated in these ceremonies with profound devotion, and many others worldwide could witness the events through various visual media channels.
