Kochi: The state tourism department is poised to develop comprehensive schemes aimed at fostering spiritual tourism in Goa. The resolution to undertake this initiative was reached during the 11th meeting of the High Power Committee. The primary goal is to establish Goa as a central hub, linking North Kashi and Dakshina Kashi.
“Goa is known as Dakshin Kashi. To bridge the travel divide between Uttarkashi and Dakshinkashi, first we are focusing on improving connectivity through direct flights to Tier 2 tourist destinations such as Uttarakhand, Nagpur, Guwahati, Nashik, Amritsar, Kashi, and Varanasi. This will attract tourists to Goa and facilitate an exchange of cultures and traditions,” Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said.
He mentioned that the department would soon unveil a strategy to boost tourism by creating “spiritual circuits,” encompassing temple trails throughout the state, as well as initiatives to promote yoga, wellness, and eco-tourism. Furthermore, the state government has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Temple Connect, a prominent player in the industry, to establish it as a focal point for spiritual tourism. As part of the upcoming Shiva Jayanti celebrations, festivals are scheduled to be organized in six cities. These festivals will serve as a platform to showcase Goa’s rich cultural heritage to tourists. Additionally, various schemes are in the planning stages to promote sports tourism.
