Mumbai: In Goregaon, a devastating fire swept through a seven-story apartment complex, claiming the lives of seven individuals. More than 40 people have been admitted with critical injuries, underscoring the gravity of this tragic incident.
Officials have stated that the fire started around 3 a.m. at the Jay Bhavani building in Goregaon West’s Azad Nagar locality, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. The injured were taken to two hospitals, HBT Hospital and Cooper Hospital, in Mumbai. The preliminary assessment suggests that a short circuit may have been the cause of the fire.
The fire consumed various items, including shops, belongings, parked two-wheelers and four-wheelers, meter cabins, clothing, plywood, and other miscellaneous items. Eight units of the fire brigade worked tirelessly for several hours to bring the fire under control. The fire was successfully extinguished by 7 in the morning.
