Kochi: In recognition of his significant contributions to literature and culture, Professor MK Sanu was honored with the ‘Governor’s Banga-Bharat Samman 2023’ (Rs. 50,000). The award was presented by the Governor of Bengal, CV Ananda Bose, at a ceremony held today in Kochi, ahead of Prof. Sanu’s 97th birthday.
Professor MK Sanu is a distinguished Indian Malayalam-language writer, critic, retired professor, biographer, journalist, orator, social activist, and human rights activist. His literary skill is evident in his extensive body of work, which comprises over 36 books spanning various genres.
A permanent member of the International Body for Human Rights, Prof. Sanu is also the founding member of Mithram, a school for the mentally handicapped situated in Mulanthuruthy, Ernakulam district, Kerala. Sanu was the recipient of the Padmaprabha Literary Award in 2011.
His diverse works include notable pieces such as ‘Sree Narayana Gurudevan’ (children’s literature), ‘Chakravaalam’ (criticism), ‘Sree Maha Bhagavatham’ (interpretation), ‘Changampuzha Krishnapilla: Nakshatrangalude Snehabhajanam’ (biography), ‘Ivar Lokathe Snehichavar’ (memoir), and many more.
