Kochi: Actor Kundara Johny, known for his portrayal of negative roles in Malayalam films, has passed away at the age of 69. He died at a private hospital in Kochi following a heart attack. The actor had been receiving treatment for several days due to health issues and had taken a break from films. He passed away on Tuesday after being taken to the hospital due to chest pain.
Kundara Johny gained recognition for his villainous roles and made his entry into the acting field in 1979 with the film ‘Agniparvatam.’ He appeared in over 100 films, including ‘Nithya Vasantham,’ ‘Rajavinte Makan,’ ‘Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha,’ ‘Kireedam,’ ‘Chenkol,’ ‘Spadikam,’ and ‘Aavanazhi.’ His portrayal of Parameswaran in ‘Kireedam’ is particularly memorable to Malayalam movie audiences. His last film was ‘Mepadiyaan,’ directed by Vishnu Mohan and starring Unni Mukundan. The film won the National Award for Best Debut Director.
Although his original name was Johny Joseph, the actor was widely known by his stage name Kundara Johny. He is survived by his wife, Stella, who is a professor at a college in Kollam, and his children, Astej Johny and Ashima Johny.
