Chennai: Authorities at Trichy airport seized gold valued at Rs 43 lakh. The gold was confiscated from a passenger who had arrived from Kuala Lumpur. A total of 717 grams of gold, worth Rs 42.91 lakh, was discovered during an inspection carried out by the Air Intelligence Unit.
The passenger was identified as a suspect, prompting the officers to conduct a search. The gold was concealed in capsules in the form of a paste, apparently in an attempt to smuggle it. The apprehended suspect has been handed over to customs officials.
Just a few days prior, customs officials had seized gold worth Rs 1 crore from another passenger arriving from Kuala Lumpur. The gold had been hidden in the form of paste inside shoes and underwear.
