Thiruvananthapuram: Poet and teacher Gowreesapattom Sankaran Nair passed away at the age of 94. He was the former Chief Editor of Vidyarangam Magazine of the State Education Department and is considered the originator of English Malayalam Manipravala poetry.
Born on July 10, 1929, at Varuvilakath house in Gowreesapattom, he authored about twenty works. Some of his major works include “Oru Collegekumarante Orudivasathe Diary,” “Kannammula Palavum Swalpam Pranayavum,” “Meesha,” “Rosily,” “Amina,” “Arabikkadal,” “Mahakavi Chundeli Pachumman,” “Pachummanum Karthikakuttiyum,” “Kunchan Nambiarumaayi oru Ullasayathra,” and “Anchu Sundarikal.”
He also composed plays like “Eemannu Manushyantethaanu,” “Vaaleduthavan vaalal,” and “Uyirthezhunnelppu.” Additionally, he authored novels, including “Ammini Enikku Maapputharu,” “Premikan Vacha Sundari Ninakk Oru Umma,” and “Priyappetta George Thomas.
