Lucknow: Following the appointment of a special team to investigate the flow of foreign aid to madrasas in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government is intensifying its actions against illegal madrasas. An investigation has been initiated against unregistered and unapproved madrasas in Muzaffarnagar, with notices issued to the managers of these institutions demanding the submission of required documents.
The district administration has identified over 100 madrasas operating without proper documentation in Muzaffarnagar district alone. Furthermore, the government has taken stringent actions against 12 such madrasas, warning that if they are not shut down immediately, they will face a daily fine of Rs 10,000 each.
However, UP Madrasa Board Chairman Iftikhar Ahmed Javed has asserted that only the minority department, and not the government or education department, holds the authority to intervene in madrasa affairs. He emphasized that madrasas differ from conventional schools, and therefore, the rules and penalties applied to other educational institutions cannot be applied to madrasas.
