Idukki: Due to the heavy rainfall in the region, the Idukki Kallar Dam opened its first shutter by 10 cm. Due to the rising water level in the Kallar dam and river, an alert has been issued along the banks. The rising water level is due to the heavy rainfall in the dam’s catchment areas till night.
Following the rise in the water level, the authorities sought permission from the District Collector to initiate the release of water from Kallar Dam. Currently, the dam’s maximum storage capacity stands at 824.48 meters. Now, the water level is reaching 823.7 meters. The District Collector granted permission to open two shutters by ten centimetres each, and residents in the area are advised to exercise caution.
In the border region, heavy rainfall continued overnight, resulting in landslides on the Chettukuzhi-Koottar road and the Chettukuzhi-Cumbummettu road. The police restored traffic in these places. In addition, there is a possibility that the Idukki Pambla Dam may open, as the District Collector granted permission to raise its shutter as well.
