New Delhi: The Ministry of Education has provided clarification stating that the fellowship programs in management offered by seven Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are considered equivalent to PhD degrees. The ministry’s announcement also affirms that graduates holding these degrees are eligible to apply for positions within the central government and other high-ranking posts and services.
As of now, doctoral degrees are conferred by IIMs in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Calcutta, Lucknow, Kozhikode, and Mumbai. With the implementation of the IIM Act 2017, other IIMs have commenced offering doctoral degree programmes for students interested in advanced research across various disciplines, including public policy, finance, accounting, and economics.
The following is a list of Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) that have granted the Fellowship (FPM) in various fields, along with the year of initiation:
- Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad – Management Education (1975)
- Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore – Management Education (1985)
- Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta – Management Education (1985)
- Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow – Management Education (2005)
- Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode – Management Education (2012-13)
- Indian Institute of Management, Indore – Management Education (2017)
- Indian Institute of Management, Mumbai (formerly known as National Institute of Industrial Engineering – NITIE, Mumbai) – Industrial Engineering (1986)
