Thiruvananthapuram: Union Minister V. Muraleedharan voiced concerns over Kerala’s escalating debt crisis during a press interaction in Thiruvananthapuram. Accusing the state government of financial mismanagement, he criticised the allocation of funds for the ‘Navakerala Sadas,’ drawing parallels to the previously criticised squandered expenditure on ‘Keraleeyam.’
Muraleedharan pointed out that less than half of the amount allocated by the central government had been effectively utilized. That is why the balance is not allotted. He said that if the remaining balance is still due, it is only because of the Kerala government’s non-compliance with the rules.
The Union Minister issued a warning, asserting that the state must reduce its extravagant spending to prevent a full-scale economic collapse. Muraleedharan criticized the blame game played by the Chief Minister and ministers, accusing them of consistently pointing fingers at the central government for financial shortcomings.
In a direct challenge to the state leadership, Muraleedharan urged clarity on the contrasting figures presented by the Chief Minister and Finance Minister Balagopal regarding the amounts demanded from the central government. The Chief Minister claims Rs 38,000, and the Finance Minister asserts Rs 58,000. He cautioned against the CM’s playing ignorance and emphasised the importance of understanding the state’s financial realities and national laws before making public statements.
