Telangana: At least seven people, including two women and a child were killed and several others were seriously injured after fire broke out in a chemical godown located in a four-storey building at Bazar Ghat area in Hyderabad’s Nampally, on Monday. Those who injured were shifted to hospital, reports said.
The fire started on the ground floor where chemicals were kept and then spread to other floors. As per initial assessment, the blaze was caused by a spark during a car repair.
A team of Nampally police arrived at the spot to probe the incident. “The repair work of a car was going on in the godown on the ground floor. The sparks spread to the chemical barrel kept in the godown and caused the fire. Within no time, the fire engulfed other floors of the building and caused six deaths,” said DCP Venkateshwar Rao, Central Zone, Hyderabad. Upon receiving the information, fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was brought under control, he further said.
According to reports, there’s a possibility of a further rise in the death toll due to the severity of the injuries sustained.
