Thiruvananthapuram: Customs authorities at Thiruvananthapuram airport successfully seized gold worth Rs 2 crore from two passengers who arrived on an Emirates flight from Dubai. The individuals, identified as Suhaib from Kozhikode and Muhammad Afsar from Thiruvananthapuram, were taken into custody in connection with the incident.
Suhaib (34), a native of Kozhikode, was apprehended by Customs Air Intelligence after 1.959 kg of gold in solution form was discovered hidden in a flask in his possession. The estimated value of the seized gold is around Rs 1.2 crore.
Muhammad Afsar (28), a resident of Kamaleswaram, Thiruvananthapuram, was found in possession of ten lungis dipped in gold. The items were detected during a routine baggage x-ray inspection at the airport, prompting his arrest.
