Kottayam: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has taken a stern measure by disconnecting the power supply to high mast lights across Vaikom Municipality due to outstanding electricity dues totaling Rs 1.41 crores. The municipality’s failure to settle the outstanding amount within the stipulated time frame led to the abrupt termination of power connections.
Vaikom Municipality, has more than 2,500 street lights and about 65 high mast lights. This move comes as a first step, affecting the prominent centers of Vaikom including areas such as the beach, Mahadeva temple, KSRTC stand, private bus stand, hospital premises, and other vital locations during nighttime.
Expressing dissatisfaction with KSEB’s action, local shopkeepers and residents have lodged complaints. In response, KSEB asserts that the restoration of electricity requires the municipality to settle a minimum of Rs 25 lakh in outstanding dues.
