Thiruvananthapuram: In a case involving the abduction and rape of a minor girl, the court has sentenced the accused to life imprisonment along with a fine. Rajesh, a resident of Malayinkeezhu, Thiruvananthapuram, was convicted by the Kattakada Pocso Court. The court imposed a sentence of 23 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Additionally, the court stated that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional 13 months of imprisonment.
The incident occurred in 2013 when the accused kidnapped the victim, who had gone to retrieve her health insurance card from her home. The accused took the girl to Guruvayur, where he rented a house and subjected her to torture.
Upon discovering her daughter missing, the mother and her relatives lodged a complaint with the police. Subsequently, during the police investigation, the girl was found in Thrissur. It was during counseling sessions that the victim disclosed the rape incident to the police.
