Kottayam: A Kottayam native was arrested in connection with extorting lakhs from a young man by promising him a foreign job. Vikas Mathew was apprehended at his residence in Anickadu. He had taken Rs 3,50,000 from a young man in Pathanamthitta, promising to secure a job for him in Portugal.
According to reports, Vikas forged documents and handed it to the youth for verification. Upon inspection, the document was discovered to be fake and the visa was not received. Attempts to contact him were unsuccessful as the accused went into hiding.
Following this, the resident of Pathanamthitta filed a complaint at the Kottayam East Police Station. An investigation team led by District Police Chief K Karthik apprehended him. The accused was then produced in court and remanded.
