New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced the draft UGC (Fitness of Colleges for Receiving Grants) Rules for the year 2024. According to official sources, these rules are applicable to all colleges falling under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.
As outlined in the draft guidelines, a college subject to these rules will be deemed eligible to receive grants from the Central Government, the University Grants Commission (UGC), or any other organization funded by the Central Government. However, this eligibility is contingent upon the UGC’s satisfaction that the college meets the specified conditions.
The conditions for eligibility include:
Valid accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
OR
For colleges offering more than three programs, accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for at least 60% of the total eligible programs. For colleges offering less than three programs, each eligible program must have accreditation.
OR
Inclusion in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking in the respective category (thrice after participating five times or twice after participating thrice).
Application for recognition under clause 12B of the UGC Act, 1956
Colleges meeting these criteria can submit an online application to the University Grants Commission under Section 12B of the UGC Act, 1956. The application should include the processing fee, the amount of which will be determined by the University Grants Commission periodically.
