New Delhi: The government is set to launch retail sales of Bharat Rice at Rs 29 per kilogram from next week to provide relief to consumers. Traders have been instructed to report their current rice stock details. The Department of Food and Public Distribution has informed traders, both big and small, across all states and Union Territories to provide the details so as to control price rise and prevent over-selling.
Bharat Rice will soon be available through the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) and the National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India Limited (NCCF), as well as through e-commerce platforms. Union Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra has announced that rice will be packaged in five and ten-kilogram packs starting next week. The government has allocated five lakh tonnes of rice to be sold in the retail market in the initial phase.

Secretary Sanjeev Chopra also mentioned that retail sales have increased by 14.5 percent compared to last year. Despite various export restrictions, a surge in sales has been reported. The Secretary assured that the prices of all other essential commodities are under control, with Bharat Atta priced at Rs 27.50 per kilogram and Bharat Dal at Rs 60 per kilogram.
