Pondicherry: The Food Safety Department in Pondicherry recently conducted an inspection that led to the alarming discovery of Rhodamine B, a cancer-causing chemical, in cotton candy. Rhodamine B, typically used as an industrial chemical dye for coloring items such as matchsticks and vegetables, poses serious health risks when consumed.
Authorities have swiftly taken action, identifying and interrogating vendors responsible for selling the contaminated cotton candy in Pondicherry. There are suspicions that such adulterated sweets may have been distributed to other states as well, prompting a wider investigation.
Cotton candy, a popular candy made from sugar, is often produced using artificial colors and additives. In light of this concerning revelation, consumers are strongly advised to only purchase cotton candy bearing the food safety certification number to ensure its safety for consumption.
