Amritsar: The death toll from the consumption of spurious liquor in Punjab has risen to 21. The tragedy occurred in Sangrur district. Currently, approximately 40 individuals are receiving treatment in various hospitals across the state. The incident occurred on Wednesday, resulting in the death of four people initially, with several others hospitalized due to health complications.
The following day, four more individuals succumbed to their conditions while undergoing treatment. Eight more fatalities were reported yesterday, followed by five today. In response, the police have arrested two more suspects, bringing the total number of arrests to six in connection with the case. Upon interrogation, it was discovered that the illicit liquor was being produced in a local residence, where 200 liters of ethanol were seized.
To further investigate the matter, the Punjab government has formed a Special Investigation Team(SIT).
