New Delhi: Most of you book train tickets weeks or sometimes months in advance. You’ve likely encountered situations where you need to postpone a trip due to various reasons in last minutes. In such instances, not only does the ticket cost go to waste, but others in your group who don’t secure tickets will miss out on the opportunity to travel. However, in such cases, the ticket can now be transferred. Indian Railways is preparing to offer this opportunity.
Indian Railways is introducing a new opportunity for passengers to transfer their train tickets to close relatives in case they are unable to travel. This move aims to address the inconvenience faced by passengers who need to postpone their trips at the last minute.
Under the new policy, if a passenger is unable to travel on the scheduled date, close relatives such as wife, mother, father, children, sister, or brother can travel as substitutes on the same ticket. To avail of this facility, passengers must apply 24 hours before the train’s departure.
Passengers can apply for ticket transfer by visiting the reservation counter and presenting the Aadhaar or ID proof of the relative who will be travelling instead. The application should be submitted after taking a printout of the ticket and considering the date of departure for long-distance trains. It’s important to note that each passenger can exchange tickets only once, and the ticket can be transferred to only one family member.
