Brasilia: A Nelore cow named Viatina-19 FIV Mara Imóveis has etched its name in history books by clinching the title of the most expensive cow ever sold, fetching an astounding $4.8 million (equivalent to 40 crores in Indian rupees) at an livestock auction held in Brazil.
The Nelore breed, renowned for its distinctive hump above the shoulders and bright white fur, traces its origins back to Bharat but has gained immense popularity in Brazil. Named after the Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh, these cattle, scientifically classified as Bos indicus, are direct descendants of the resilient and adaptable Ongole cattle of Bharat.
Out of the 23 crore cows in Brazil, a significant 10 crore belong to the Nelore breed. Known for their ability to withstand summer heat and renowned for their robust metabolism and immunity against infections, Nelore cattle are highly sought after in the market.
