New Delhi : Senior Indian journalist Ravish Kumar on Friday was conferred with the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award, the Asian equivalent of the Nobel, which recognises the “greatness of spirit and transformative leadership in Asia”.
Kumar, 44, who is NDTV India’s senior executive editor is one of India’s most influential TV journalists, the award citation by the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation said. He was honoured for “his principled belief that it is in giving full and respectful voice to the voiceless”, the citation read.
The four other winners are Ko Swe Win from Myanmar, Angkhana Neelapaijit from Thailand, Raymundo Pujante Cayabyab from Philippines and Kim Jong-Ki from South Korea.
The Ramon Magsaysay Award is an annual award established to perpetuate former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay’s example of integrity in governance, courageous service to the people, and pragmatic idealism within a democratic society.
