Srinagar: CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and his CPI colleague D. Raja were detained at the Srinagar airport and denied entry into the city on Friday.
The Left leaders had gone to Srinagar to meet their party colleagues. The CPIM leaders were detained in fear that the security of the region might be disrupted for which the government did not permit them.
“They showed us a legal order which did not allow any entry into Srinagar. It stated that even escorted movement into the city was not permitted due to security reasons. We are still trying to negotiate with them,” Mr. Yechury told PTI over phone.
After scrapping Article 370, it seems that the Left and Congress party are not in a peace of mind.
This comes a day after Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad was barred from entering Jammu and Kashmir and sent back from the Srinagar airport.
While addressing the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday promised jobs, all-round development, transparent elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and and end to terrorism.
