New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the ‘Fit India Movement’ in a bid to make fitness and physical activity a part of daily life of the citizens. The launch comes on National Sports Day which is also the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
During the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister gave the fitness pledge to the people of the country.
During his speech he stressed the importance of fitness in our lives. He said, ” There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs. ”
He also listed the countries which are taking importance of fitness seriously. He also reminded the audience about the lifestyle diseases like diabetes and hypertension which is caused by lifestyle disorder.
Modi also told the audience about the contributions of Major Dhyan Chand and said, “On this day a great sportsperson was born, Major Dhyan Chand. He amazed the world with his fitness, stamina, and hockey stick.”
The inauguration was aired live on Doordarshan. All higher education institutions were asked by UGC to live stream the inauguration program and to make sure that students and faculty attend to the maximum.
