New Delhi : A petition was filed to decrease the legal marital age for men to 18 was rejected by the Supreme Court.
Advocate Ashok Panday had submitted this petition to reduce the age bar from 21 to 18 for men. Panday argued that if the minimum age to vote and join the Military are 18, why age to marry has to be 21. The court dismissed the petition concluding that the petition will be considered only when someone at the age of 18 tries to make this claim. The court also punished Panday with a penalty of Rs.25000/-
