Indian Army chopper ‘Cheetah’ crashes in Bhutan

New Delhi: The single-engine Cheetah Helicopter of the Indian Army, unfortunately, crashed in Bhutan on Friday.
The helicopter was on duty en route from Khirmu (Arunachal) to Yongfulla (Bhutan) and two pilots one from the Indian Army and the other from Royal Bhutan Army lost their lives.

According to the Indian Army sources, the Indian pilot was a Lieutenant-Colonel while the Bhutanese army pilot was training with the Indian Army.

The helicopter crashed at 1 pm near Yongfullla in Bhutan and went out of radio and visual contact soon after 1 pm. Ground Search And Rescue (SAR) was launched immediately from Yongfulla and the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Army Helicopter SARs were also launched from Misamari, Guwahati and Hashimara.

The chopper belonged to Indian Army’s 667 Army Aviation Squadron based in Misamari in Assam.
