Srinagar: Ten people including four army soldiers, one BSF constable and five civilians lost their lives in avalanches in Kupwara and Ganderbal districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Four soldiers died in the avalanche at Kupwara Machil sector and a BSF jawan lost his life near the Line of Control, at Naugam sector. The incident took place at 10 pm last day. The rescue team rushed to the spot and saved six army men while one soldier breathed his last on the way to the hospital.
Meantime, five civilians were killed at Kulan village in Ganderbal district, Soan Marg. Two bodies were recovered on Monday night and the two other bodies were found today morning. Avalanches also hit at Gurus and Rampur but no casualties reported. The regions are experiencing heavy snowfall and alert has been issued to the people living in the areas, report says.
