Anuppur: A man has been booked for giving triple talaq to his wife over phone in Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh, police said on Tuesday.
A case against the accused, Mohammed Ramzan (35), has been registered under Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019. According to the Act, it bans instant triple talaq and can give imprisonment upto three years and a fine.
His wife Afsana Bi (30) gave a complaint to the police followed by Ramzan’s talaq on Sunday.
The couple got married in 2012 and has a five-year old daughter. The complainant accused Ramzan of ill-treatment post marriage and abandoning her three years ago.
The woman filed the complaint with the police on Monday and the probe is underway.
