Puducherry: A ruling Congress MLA has been charged for the second time after he violated the lockdown norms and distributed relief materials that led to a gathering of over 150 people, police said on Tuesday.
A John Kumar was distributing rice bags near his house in neighbouring Nellithope village on Monday. A complaint against him was followed from the Revenue Department officials and case was charged under Indian Penal Code sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease) and provisions of the Disaster Management Act and the Epidemics Act, police said.
Notably, this is the second time he has been charged with the same sections.
Last month, he had distributed vegetables to 200 people, further police registered a case against the legislator.
