New Delhi: In a major relief the Supreme Court on Friday granted interim protection to Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami for three weeks and no “coercive action” will be taken against the journalist.
In the meantime, Goswami can move an anticipatory bail application.
A Bench led by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, which heard the case through videoconferencing, noted that no coercive action should be taken on the FIRs filed against Arnab Goswami.
The court will next hear the case after eight weeks and the Bench stayed further action on other FIRs registered against him in States, including Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Telangana and Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Arnab Goswami in a video message expressed his gratitude to the Supreme Court for upholding his right to report.
