Thiruvananthapuram: The government has made it compulsory to wear masks in public places and workplace from today as a preventive measure against coronavirus.
Those violating the norm will be charged a fine of Rs 200. If the offence is repeated, Rs 5000 will be levied as fine, said DGP Loknath Behra.
If ready-made masks are unavailable, people can use home-made cloth masks, bath towel or handkerchief to cover their mouth.
