Lucknow: UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday appealed to the migrant workers not to return home by the mode of cycle or foot as it can be a threat to their health.

Taking to Twitter, Yogi Adityanath said, “I appeal once again to all workers and Shramik brothers-sisters not to walk or cycle from other states to your homes. Walking alone can endanger your health and safety. This is the hour of crisis. Be patient, your safe return arrangements are being made.”

“The Chief Minister has issued categorical directions to the officials to ensure that no migrant labour returns to the state while travelling on foot. He assured that the state government has been actively engaged in bringing them back safely,” a statement issued by the chief minister’s office said.

Around 172 workers were walking from Delhi and Noida to their homes last evening, when the they were stopped by the UP Police on a highway in west UP’s Bulandshahr, about 514 km from state capital Lucknow.

The local administration has promised to arrange buses for the workers to send them home.
