Kolkata: Super Cyclone Amphan will make landfall at 4 pm near Sunderbans in West Bengal today. Then it will cross the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast between Digha in West Bengal and Hatiya Island in Bangladesh.
More than 4.5 lakh people have been evacuated from the vulnerable areas in West Bengal and Odisha.
The Met department has issued an “orange message” for West Bengal, warning of extensive damage in Kolkata, Hooghly, Howrah, South and North 24 Parganas and East Midnapore districts.
In Kolkata, the airport has been shut till 5 am tomorrow after the city, close to the coast, was put on alert.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will directly monitor the situation from the state secretariat on Wednesday.
