New Delhi: Colonel Santosh Babu, who laid down his life in the violent clash with China, was reportedly to be transferred to Hyderabad. However, the action got delayed due to coronavirus lockdown.
Col Santosh Babu hailed from Telangana and two jawans, Havildar Palani from Tamil Nadu and Sepoy Ojha from Jharkhand, were among 20 soldiers who lost their lives in the clash.
Col Babu is survived by wife, daughter (8) and a son (4). His parents, B Upender and Manjula are in a state of deep shock.
He had last spoken to his parents on Sunday evening, and he seemed concerned about the border tension. He had told his parents that not to worry and the situation on the ground is not like shown in the media.
His father said, “I could not join the army and serve my country. So I wanted my son to join the defence forces and serve our country though my relatives discouraged the idea.”
“I am both sad and proud. My son has laid down his life for the country. As a mother I am sad. He was my only son,” Col Babu’s mother Manjula said.
