Chennai: One of the leaders of Indian mathematics, C.S. Seshadri in the post-Independence era, passed away late on Friday in Chennai. He was 88.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief on the demise of Professor C. S. Seshadri.
PM Modi tweeted, ” In the passing away of Professor C. S. Seshadri, we have lost an intellectual stalwart who did outstanding work in mathematics. His efforts, especially in algebraic geometry, will be remembered for generations. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

He was the founder and Director-Emeritus of the Chennai Mathematical Institute and is known for his work in algebraic geometry. The Seshadri constant is named after him. He was a recipient of the Padma Bhushan in 2009, the third highest civilian honor in the country.
