President Kovind flags off Red Cross relief supplies for affected people in Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday flagged off nine trucks of relief supplies from Rashtrapati Bhavan for the people of Assam, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh affected by recent floods and COVID-19 pandemic.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and officials of Indian Red Cross were also present on the occasion.

“The relief materials to be carried by trains to concerned states include tarpaulins, saris, dhotis, cotton blankets, kitchen set, bed sheets, surgical masks, PPE kits and gloves. It is in continuation of the nationwide relief operation undertaken by @IndianRedCross,” Rashtrapati Bhavan added.

In Assam, about 93 people lost their lives in flood-related incidents while 28 lakh have been affected in 26 districts of the state.

As many as 765,191 people were affected due to floods triggered by incessant rains in Bihar.
