Mumbai: Maharashtra government on Tuesday announced that it has decided to accord state funeral to the late Retd Wing Commander Captain DV Sathe, who was killed in Air India Express flight crash at Kozhikode airport on August 7.
“The State has decided to accord a state funeral to the late Wing Commander (Retd) Captain DV Sathe. His life has been one that shall inspire many more young pilots to achieve the Sword of Honour and command over the skies,” CMO Maharshtra tweeted.

Sathe’s mortal remains was brought to the Air India building in Mumbai on Sunday. The body will be kept at his residence in Andheri East and the state honour will be accorded to Sathe at his residential complex. Indian Air Force will also conduct wreath-laying ceremony.
An Air India Express flight overshot and fell 50 metres off the end of the runway at the Kozhikode airport on Friday, breaking into two. There were 191 people on board.
Former wing commander Deepak Vasant Sathe belonged to the 58th Course of the National Defence Academy, Kharakvasla, where he had bagged the coveted ‘Sword of Honour’ on passing out from the NDA.
