Mumbai: The Uddhav Thackeray led-Maharashtra government withdrew the general consent given to the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe cases in the state. The development comes amid the CBI registering a case on Tuesday to probe alleged TRP (Television Rating Points) scam.
The FIR was first registered at the Hazratganj Police station in Lucknow based on the complaint of an advertising company promoter, the Uttar Pradesh government recommended the transfer of the case to the CBI.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946 (25 of 1946), the Government of Maharashtra hereby withdraws the consent accorded to the members of Delhi Special Police Establishment,” the order read.
Essentially, the CBI henceforth shall have to seek permission of the Maharashtra Government to register any new cases pertaining to the jurisdiction of the state.
