New Delhi: China has sought Indian Navy’s help to locate fishing vessel ‘Lu Peng Yuan Yu 028’ capsized in the Indian Ocean. Indian Navy accepted China’s request and deployed P-8I maritime patrol aircraft for search and rescue operations. The capsized vessel had 39 people on board including 17 Chinese, 17 Indonesian and five Philippine mariners.
The P-8I aircraft carried out multiple and extensive searches despite adverse weather and located multiple objects possibly belonging to sunken vessel. It is reported that the dead bodies two people were found during the search.
“Australia has been liaising with the Chinese Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), with three Chinese naval ships continuing the search in the area today, said the Chinese spokesperson. Four ships including two foreign ships are undertaking search work. China has also sought help from Australia, Maldives and Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, China has expressed gratitude for India’s help and posted a tweet lauding the efforts of Indian Navy in helping the search and rescue operation.
