Port Moresby: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given a grand welcome at Papa New Guinea on Sunday. Papua New Guinea Prime Minster James Marape welcomed PM Modi by touching his feet as a mark of respect.
After the two embraced each other, PM Marape reached for PM Modi’s feet. The two shared another hug before walking towards the other dignitaries who had come to welcome Prime Minister Modi.
Papua New Guinea doesn’t usually give a ceremonial welcome for any leader visiting the country after sunset. But an exception was made for Prime Minister Modi. He arrived after 10 pm local time.
PM Modi was given a 19-gun salute, guard of honour and ceremonial welcome. He arrived in Papa New Guinea to attend the third summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC).
