New Delhi: Lloyd Austin, the Secretary of Defence of the United States, arrived in India on Sunday and met with Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today. The purpose of their meeting is to reinforce the existing defence partnership between the two countries, aiming to strengthen collaboration and cooperation in the field of defence.
During his visit to New Delhi, Secretary Austin also had the opportunity to inspect the Tri-Services Guard of Honour. The Pentagon provided further insight into the details of the Defence Secretary’s visit, stating, “Following his visit to Singapore, Secretary Austin will travel to New Delhi to meet with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and other leaders as part of the ongoing efforts to modernize the US-India Major Defence Partnership.”
Upon his arrival, Secretary Austin was warmly welcomed by Eric Garcetti, the United States Ambassador to India. Currently on the third leg of his four-nation tour, Secretary Austin has previously visited Japan and Singapore.
Taking to twitter, the US Defence Secretary expressed, “I have returned to India to engage in discussions with key leaders about strengthening our Major Defense Partnership.”
This marks Secretary Austin’s second visit to India, the previous one taking place in March 2021. The recurrence of high-level visits demonstrates the commitment of both nations to foster a robust defence relationship and explore avenues for closer cooperation.
