New Delhi: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind wants to ban the film ‘Ajmer 92’, which tells the life story of sexually exploited girls at Ajmer Dargah. According to Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Moulana Mahamood Madanion, the film is made to defame Ajmer Sharif Dargah.
“Khwaja Moinuddhin Chishti of Ajmer Dargah is a person who has won the hearts of millions of people. He is the messenger of peace and harmony. Those who try to insult or belittle him will be insulted themselves. There is an attempt to portray a particular community badly. So the film ‘Ajmer 92’ should not be screened,” the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president said.
The film is based on a true incident in Ajmer, Rajasthan. Farooq Chishti, Anwar Chishti, and Nafees Chishti, members of the Khadeem family who run the Ajmer Dargah, sexually abused the girls in the Dargah. The Chishti family claimed to be direct descendants of Sufi legend Khwaja Moinuddhin Chishti. All the girls who were sexually assaulted were Hindu girls between the ages of 11 and 20.
The storyline of the movie sheds light on one of the most appalling rape cases witnessed in the country. Directed by Pushpendra Singh, the film is scheduled to be released on July 14.
