New Delhi: Train passengers can get Rs 10 lakh insurance against accidents during train journey by paying just 35 paise extra at the time of online ticketing through IRCTC.
IRCTC provides travel insurance on e-tickets as an optional service for 35 paise, which the traveller must select at the time of booking. However, it is not mandatory to choose the travel insurance while booking a ticket through IRCTC.
During the ticket booking the nomination details must be filled in at the respective insurance company site. If nomination details are not filled in, the settlement shall be made with legal heirs if a claim arises.
Under the insurance facility, IRCTC provides passengers a cover of up to Rs 10 lakh in case of death, permanent total disability or hospitalisation due to an accident during the journey.
Insurance of up to Rs 10 lakh is paid if a passenger dies or suffers permanent total disability. Permanent partial disability will fetch Rs 7.5 lakh as compensation. In case of an injury, hospitalisation expenses to the tune of Rs 2 lakh is paid. Another Rs 10,000 is paid to transport mortal remains.
The 35 paise insurance is avail only for the bookings through IRCTC website and app. During the ticket booking the travelers can check mark on ‘Yes, and I accept this’, under the Travel Insurance subsection. The insurance can be availed by everyone within a single PNR number.
