New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, the Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) has apprehended six individuals allegedly involved in a nationwide drug trafficking network operating through the dark web. The agency’s raid led to the seizure of staggering 15,000 LSD blots, marking it as the largest haul in the past two decades. Alongside the LSD blots, authorities also confiscated 2.5kg of marijuana and ₹4.65 lakhs in cash from the suspects.
During a press briefing, NCB Deputy Director General Gyaneshwar Singh revealed, “We’ve arrested six persons in two cases and seized 15,000 blots of LSD drug. The commercial quantity of this drug is 0.1 gram. It’s a synthetic drug and is very dangerous. This is the biggest seizure in the last two decades.”
The NCB Deputy Director General further explained that the criminal gangs involved in the operation used crypto currencies and exploited the dark web for communication. Deliveries of these illicit substances were carried out through courier agencies.
The dark web refers to an encrypted section of the internet that is not indexed by standard search engines. Criminals often leverage the anonymity provided by the dark web to engage in illicit activities, including the trade of malware, drugs, weapons, and other criminal services.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the NCB official emphasised, “India is gradually emerging as a significant consumer of LSD, a highly dangerous drug. This network spanned across multiple locations, including Poland, Netherlands, USA, Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.”
