New Delhi: The chief of the United Nations’ agricultural development fund has praised India for its emphasis on millet cultivation and for exporting 1.8 million tonnes of wheat to 18 countries that experienced severe food shortages last year due to the conflict in Ukraine.
Alvaro Lario, President of the International Fund of Agricultural Development (IFAD), also highlighted the potential of India’s G20 presidency to bring about transformative changes in global food systems, as many of New Delhi’s priorities align with those of the UN organisation.
In an interview, Lario, an esteemed expert in development finance, emphasised that India’s expertise could play a vital role in supporting agricultural and rural development in other countries of the Global South.
