New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced the upcoming launch of the second phase of the Passport Seva Programme (PSP-Version 2.0) during the Passport Seva Divas event. The new phase will introduce enhanced and upgraded e-passports, aiming to provide passports and related services in a timely, reliable, accessible, transparent, and efficient manner.
Jaishankar urged passport-issuing authorities in India and abroad to join him in reaffirming their commitment to delivering passport services to the people. He emphasised the importance of embracing a digital ecosystem, artificial intelligence-powered service delivery, and chip-enabled e-passports to facilitate smoother overseas travel and enhance data security.
“We will soon embarking on Passport Seva Programme (PSP) Version 2.0, including new and upgraded e-passports,” Jaishankar said in his message on Passport Seva Kendra.
He further added, “While in 2014, there were 77 Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) in the country, this number has increased sevenfold and stands at 523 today.”
Highlighting the government’s objective of improving the “Ease of Living” for citizens, Jaishankar mentioned that these initiatives align with the Prime Minister’s vision. He acknowledged the significant contribution of the Passport Seva Programme towards the goal of a “Digital India” and shared his experiences visiting Passport Seva Kendras in various states.
