New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken a significant step in the ISIS conspiracy case of Shivamogga district, Karnataka, by filing its first supplementary chargesheet against nine individuals. The chargesheet reveals that the accused were in the process of pursuing robotics courses to acquire skills necessary for carrying out future terrorist attacks.
According to the NIA, the accused had conducted a trial IED blast in Shivamogga and had also conducted reconnaissance of multiple locations. They further engaged in the arson of properties and vehicles, aiming to spread terror among the public. These activities were part of a larger Islamic State (ISIS) conspiracy with the intention of executing acts of terror and violence in India as well as waging a war against the country.
The accused chargesheeted on Saturday have been identified as Mohamed Shariq (25), Maaz Muneer Ahmed (23), Syed Yasin (22), Reeshaan Thajuddin Sheikh (22), Huzair Farhan Baig (22), Mazin Abdul Rahman (22), Nadeem Ahmed K A (22), Zabiulla (32) and Nadeem Faizal N (27). All of them belong to Karnataka.
“They have been charged under the UA(P) Act 1967, the Indian Penal Code, and the KS Prevention of Destruction and Loss of Property Act, 1981,” the probe agency said.
The case was initially registered by the Shivamogga Rural Police on September 19, 2022, and later taken over and re-registered by the NIA on November 15, 2022. Further investigations in the case are underway.
